Allerton Oak - A symbol of hope & remembrance

Allerton Oak - A symbol of hope & remembrance

Liverpool’s 1000 year old tree that’s seen it all!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The Allerton Oak has been around since before Liverpool even existed. A tree that was around during medieval times, the Allerton Oak acted as a makeshift courthouse due to the lack of a true courthouse in Allerton. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Fast forward to the 1940’s, the love and strength contained in its leaves really shows through. People from all over Liverpool would come to the Allerton Oak to be able to send a special message to their loved ones. Envelopes with a leaf from the Allerton Oak would be sent to those fighting on the frontline to give them hope and as a reminder that those back home hadn’t forgotten them.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You can still visit this epic tree, standing strong and proud in Calderstones Park and marvel at its beauty and powerful history.
